As many of you may already know from my facebook page, I am selling my longboard! It breaks my heart a bit, but I want to buy another one and I need some money to put in this purchase ;)
Anyway, as for everything else, whenever you need to sell a board you want to make it look the most appealing for your possible customer. That's why I needed to clean it and remove all the old layers of wax that I've been putting on it for the past months. Which can be a difficult job sometimes.
Anyway, as for everything else, whenever you need to sell a board you want to make it look the most appealing for your possible customer. That's why I needed to clean it and remove all the old layers of wax that I've been putting on it for the past months. Which can be a difficult job sometimes.
Then you should know that all surfers need to remove their wax from time to time, for one reason or another (you can see mine was very dirty), not just for selling their surfboard!
That's why today I will show you the right way to easily remove the wax from your stick.
Note: you better do this process outside, when possible, if you don't want to make your partner, flatmate or mum scream ;) Wax bits will get everywhere and will be hard to remove from furniture, rugs, etc.
What you need:
your board (of course)
scraping tool
Pikle Wax Remover or similar
1. First of all, you need to put your surfboard under direct sunlight for a time between half an hour and a couple of hours, depending on how warm it's outside. This will allow the wax to soften and get easier to remove. If this is not possible, due to the weather or other reasons, you can soften the wax with a hair dryer.
2. Start scraping off the wax from your board. To do this, you can use the non-serrated side of a wax comb, an old (and expired!) credit card or any other similar tool.
3. Continue scraping until all the wax has been removed, still making sure to be gentle enough not to damage your board's deck. This can be quite a long process, depending how long is your board. Be patient and don't give up!
4. When you're satisfied of your job and the board looks clean, you can use some special tools to rub over the board and help you remove the last bits of wax. I used the Pickle Wax Remover, a sort of "sponge" filled with sand-like material that helps clean the surfboard. Once I used some real sand at the beach. It worked well, but someone told me that could ruin my board, so I never did it again.
5. Once removed, collect your wax in a big "wax ball". Make sure all the bits of wax don't go dispersed in the environment (even if you're using a ecological surfwax).
Taaa daaa!!! Your board looks like brand new :) Now you can re-apply some wax if you want to and enjoy your clean board!
